In a couple of weeks I will be celebrating three years with Catholic Social Services, Special Needs Services. A few months ago the department unveiled a name change, Family Disability Services, and featured a new logo. However, their mission statement and client services still remain the same.

During the previous year with Catholic Social Services, I have had the pleasure of working with 3 new clients, aiding a client I had not seen in over a year, and providing 5 client sessions at Providence Pediatric Neurodevelopment Clinic. Two of my new clients where males around the age of 10 with high functioning autism. With one of the boys, peer interaction outside of a school-setting was the main habilitation focus. With the other boy, establishing a night-time routine was a high priority. The third young male was an emerging adult on the autism spectrum who was out of school for approximately 6 months. We worked on job readiness skills and interviewing skills. Soon after working with him I connected the young man with Alaska Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for job placement.

During this last year, I have not seen nearly the volume of clients I would normally. I focused on completing my undergraduate degree and took on various academic positions and responsibilities, including assisting in research and teaching. This year I'm looking forward to new challenges and opportunities.
