Title: The 5P’s of Asperger’s Syndrome: A Five Dimensional Examination

AbstractThis paper examines Asperger’s Syndrome from a five dimensional perspective. The 5P’s considered in this assessment are predisposing factors, precipitating factors, perpetuating factors, psychological assessment, and preferred psychotherapies; both genetic and environmental dynamics are recognized.  The cause of Asperger’s Syndrome is multi-dimensional in origin with biological and environmental dynamics in play.  The etiology is examined in the predisposing section; the symptomology is examined in the precipitating section; the maladaptive behaviors expressed is examined in the perpetuating section; while the current psychological assessments and psychotherapies are touched on in the last two sections.  This paper calls for a change in perspectives to a multi-dimensional look at psychiatric disorders.
